Auto Accidents

The New York car accident attorneys of Edelman, Krasin, & Jaye help victims injured on New York-area roadways. We are experts in all aspects of NY No-Fault law, commerical truck accidents, as well as specific issues relevant to NYC accidents such as taxi & bicycle accidents and pedestrian knockdowns. Our team is ready to begin to work on your lawsuit right away. Please note, the firm handles car accident lawsuits nationwide, and litigates cases in all states.

2013 data shows that the majority of auto accidents in New York were caused by distracted drivers or motorists who were following too closely. And according to the NY Department of Motor Vehicles, collisions were more frequent on Fridays and Saturdays, compared to other days of the week. This past year, New York was the site of more than 304,000 car crashes — 1,109 which proved fatal.

In New York City alone, 281 people were killed and nearly 42,000 people suffered serious personal injury in auto accidents, illustrating the perils facing motorists today. Unfortunately, statistics indicate that fatal NY car accidents are on the rise, claiming innocent lives of both motorists and pedestrians. In fact, pedestrian fatalities from vehicle strikes are quickly rising in Manhattan, its surrounding boroughs and Long Island. If pedestrian deaths continue at the existing rate, NYC may log more than 200 fatalities annually.

Pedestrian safety groups are advocating for stricter measures and levying criminal charges against drivers who cause injury or death because of negligent or reckless behavior. The Transportation Department states that excessive speed is to blame for 30 percent of traffic fatalities in NYC, prompting some to call for speed-tracking devices across the city.

Another analysis of 2013 NYPD crash report data suggests that almost a quarter of New York’s auto accident-related deaths occurred in only five percent of the city. Queens Boulevard, Brooklyn and the Bronx’s Grand Concourse are so-called “hotspots” for traffic fatalities.

Here at Edelman, Krasin and Jaye, the frequency and astronomical cost of auto accidents on Long Island is a source of major concern. Spinal cord injuries, broken bones, traumatic brain injury (TBI) and burns can require months if not years of medical therapy, surgeries and rehabilitation.  Our experienced auto accident attorneys know all too well the psychological trauma of losing a loved one in a traffic collision, particularly one caused by negligence, is a tremendous burden to bear. With so many variables affecting claims, it is essential to retain a law firm with expertise in car accident litigation and New York’s no-fault insurance.

Whether involving taxis, motorcycles, trucks, SUVs or passenger vehicles, these accidents can leave victims with catastrophic injuries, emotional trauma, and the economic burdens of lost income while they recover. Hospital and medical expenses for car crash injuries can quickly spiral out of control, putting victims on the brink of financial disaster. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) cautions that medical costs related to car accidents are skyrocketing. One visit to the emergency room costs an average of $3,300, and if the accident victim is hospitalized, they could well spend more than $57,000 over the course of their life
